Mendocino County

Mendocino County is one of the most picturesque areas in the state of California. Its terrain includes rolling, vineyard-covered hills, redwood forests, rugged mountains and a breathtaking coastline.

Mendocino County is America's Greenest Wine Region and is as famous for its untamed beauty, wide open spaces and earth-friendly farming and ranching as it is for the wines produced in its diverse soils and microclimates. We offer Wine Tours and packages to allow you to discover our secrets firsthand!

Willits is called the "Heart of Mendocino County" because of its centralized location within our county. It is an ideal place from which to take day trips in all directions; North to the majestic "Avenue of the Giants" a 31 mile drive through some of the largest and oldest Redwoods, West to the gorgeous Mendocino Coast and South to many award winning Wineries and Lakes.

Willits is the home of the Mendocino County Museum, a must see; an extensive exhibit of Seabiscuit, the famous racehorse, relics from the clipper ship the "Frolic" and Native American baskets are just a few of the interesting bits of history of Mendocino County.

Roots of Motive Power, a unique display of steam engines and the roots of the logging industry in north western California is right next door to the Mendocino County Museum.

The Skunk Train will take you back in time as you are whisked away on a fantastic journey. This is a historically accurate train line running from Willits to Fort Bragg that showcases phenomenal beauty of the area. Everyone will enjoy winding through the countryside over bridges and trestles and through tunnels. The vintage rail-cruiser departs Willits at 9:45 am for a 3.5 -4 hour round trip to Northspur.
