Barra of Mendocino County - Forerunner in Organic Wine!

  • Barra

Barra of Mendocino

“I’ve never missed even one harvest. Do you know why? I only get paid once a year, so I’m going to show up for harvest to ensure I get paid!” — Charlie Barra

One of the main reasons we love Barra of Mendocino is the Barra family takes great pride in delivering estate grown, organic wines that are well-balanced, approachable and a true reflection of the quality of each grape that goes into the bottle. This family atmosphere is reflected in their wines and in their tasting room and in their staff! Great venue for an event, a wedding or just to sip some wine!

Barra is only 15 minutes from our hotel, making Baechtel Creek Inn the perfect lodging near the Mendocino County Wine region to stay while you tour this winery or have your event there!

All BARRA of Mendocino wines are made from 100% estate grown, hand-picked certified organic grapes. We believe that the combination of their organic viticulture practices, coupled with their unique geographic location in the Mendocino appellation, helps to deliver premium wines that are truly representative of their roots.

Today, at 87 years young, Charlie is still running the show (even though, with a big wink, he’ll tell you Martha is the real boss!). From 3:00 am frost alarm phone calls in the spring to overseeing all elements of harvest in the summer/fall, Charlie is as entrenched in the art of growing fine fruit as he was 68 years ago. And now, with the 5,000 square foot BARRA of Mendocino winery and tasting room just a stone’s throw from his Calpella birthplace, you can’t help but see how life comes full circle. Charlie’s hard work, dedication and unwillingness to accept “no” for an answer continues to serve as the inspiration for all at BARRA of Mendocino.

Their unique tasting room and gardens is available for events as well! Ask for Katrina - she is wonderful!

We invite you to stop by their tasting room at 7051 N State Street, Redwood Valley, Ca open daily from 10 am - 5 pm and experience the magic of BARRA of Mendocino wine.

Parducci - America's Greenest Winery

  • Parducci

Parducci Wine Cellars

"Parducci is Family Farmed, locally owned and operated in California's Mendocino County.  We are committed to sustainable winegrowing practices that yield top quality grapes and wines while protecting the environment and supporting or community and local farmers."

Some of the things we love about Parducci are their Redwood Casks - beautiful to see!  Also their water reclamation pond is a great place to walk down to and check out how sustainable they really are.  It is a great place to enjoy a bottle of their wine, bring your dog along for a lovely walk through the vineyard.  Again, Baechtel Creek Inn is the perfect choice for Mendocino County Lodging when you visit Parducci!

Their sustainability check list:

  • Locally Owned and Operated
  • Grapes from Local Family Farms
  • Sustainable Farming Practices
  • 100% Green Power
  • Water Conservation & Recylcing
  • Earth-Friendly Packaging
  • 1st Carbon Neutral Winery in US

Before sustainability how-to-books were on the best sellers' lists, three men of singular vision, Tim Thornhill, Tom Thornhill and Paul Dolan, were committed to the creation of "America's Greenest Winery."  They believe that sustainable farming practices result in healthier soil, balanced grapes and higher quality wines.  At Parducci Wine Cellars, we understand sustainability is not a temporary trend, but a continuous journey and a constant process.  There is always more we can contribute.

The stand our winery has taken is firm, designed to create quality wines and a healthier planet.  By making wine from locally farmed grapes, using certified sustainable farming practices, utilizing 100% green power and employing earth-friendly packaging, our family-owned and operated company is creating a model of quality and environmental sustainability for other wineries to follow.  Parducci received California's highest environmental award, the Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award in 2007 and 2009.

Rivino Winery - "Where the river becomes the wine."

  • Rivino

"RIVINO,  is a combination of the words:  RIVER and VINO.  "Where the river becomes the wine."  With much excitement and hard work we are pleased to release our wines for others to enjoy."

We love their wines (Chardonny a particular favorite), their signature firepit and their great Friday late afternoon events where you can enjoy the view, the wine and music!

Located along the Russian River in Mendocino County, RIVINO is our boutique family winery.  We handcraft all our wines from select grapes grown on our family's Schrader Ranch Vineyard.  Being surrounded by grapes, and desiring to sample the fruit from our vines, we began making small amounts of wine for ourselves.  Like many things in life, that simple desire has now evolved.  Realizing that we were producing far more wine than we could consume on our own, we decided it was time to take the next step.  Hence the creation of RIVINO, our 100% estate family winery.

Nelson Family Vineyards

  • Nelson Family Vineyards

"We sincerely believe in our motto that "Great wines are born in the vineyard."  We grow every block with the same intention, to create the very highest quality grapes.  The results can be found in our estate wines."

We love their laid back special music events in their Redwood Grove during the spring-fall season!  Bring your comfy chair and take a seat and enjoy!

For over 50 years, the Nelson Family has been farming vineyards in their fertile valley hidden in the Hopland Hills.  The old tractor once used to till the rugged soil, now stands as a symbol of their passion for sustainable farming and belief that great wine is born in the vineyards.  The once working sheep ranch and orchard operation of 1952, has contributed in creating the unique biodiversity that exists in the Nelson Family Vineyards today.

Cradled between sustainably farmed vineyards and noble redwoods overlooking canola fields and natural Mendocino gardens, this site is unparelled in its natural beauty and rustic elegance.  A prestigous redwood grove and intimate wine bar overlook a picturesque view of rolling cabernet vineyards, where you have the luxury of tasting limited production hand crafted estate wines.

Sacarina - the Winery with the Caves!

  • Saracina

"John Fetzer has a strong handshake, and makes a great wine.  His wife is incredibly charming.  Here you will find yellow jacket traps, honey bees and dragonflies, oh my!  Warm fall sunshine soothes the soul along with a sip of wine."  Yelp Review

We love their unique Wine Cave, their Meritage White Wine, their gorgeous Olive trees, and their view from one of their unique metal sculpture chairs overlooking weeping willows and a pond!

Saracina is a 600-acre bio-diverse property encompassing three ranches located in Hopland, California.  With 300 acres in vineyards, a small-production, state-of-the-art, California Certified Organic winery and the first wine caves in Mendocino County, carved out of solid rock over a two-year period.

Reminiscent of the rural character of Napa Valley 25 years ago, the ranches are populated with sheep and goats roaming the hillsides, groves of 100-year-old olive trees, promegranate orchards, bamboo gardens, hiking trails, a wild azalea canyon, organic vegatable gardens, and four ponds that attract herons.  Canadian geese and myriad animal life.  The owners are committed to perservation of the land and the rivers.
